The new face in the starting line-up of the reigning World champions, Mateusz Bieniek is one of the two most impressive newcomers during the 2015 edition of the World League.

The 21-year-old middle blocker has been a part of the elite Polish Effector Kielce since 2013. The good work during these two years with Effector, a club which leans on youth (the oldest player during the 2014-2015 campaign was 27), earned him a national team call-up by Stephane Antiga. Many took the appearance of Bieniek in the World League list as an incentive to ensure variety in the middle for the years to come. It was probably a surprise even to the player himself that he debuted in the senior team sooner than everyone expected – in Poland’s opening game of the 2015 season against the Olympic champions Russia at the end of May. Bieniek’s performance was stunning – 14 points and MVP.

The 210cm-tall Mateusz has been an inalterable component of Antiga’s system ever since and has played in all games so far, including the battles against USA and Iran. One thing is certain after his debut – the competition in the middle has become fierce and it is only good news for the fans of Druzyna Polska.
